Jam of the Day | Admiral Radley - I Heart California

Still mourning the demise of Grandaddy? Loved Jason Lytle's solo debut, Yours Truly, the Commuter, but still want more? You're in luck. Speakers in Code readers, meet Admiral Radley.

Jason Lytle and Aaron Burtch of Grandaddy have joined forces with Earlimart's Aaron Espinoza and Ariana Murray to create the indie-pop band, Admiral Radley. The long-time friends have toured together and collaborated musically over the years, and now these songs are finally seeing the light of day, thanks to Espinoza's record label, THE SHIP.

Perhaps it's not a total surprise that the Modesto and LA-based indie rock bands released the ode "I Heart California" as the lead single from the upcoming LP. But, the song isn't purely puppy dogs and rainbows. Lytle captures the "quirks" of his home state with lyrics like, "Drugs fall out of diaper bags as Midwesterners stare..." Yet, he's not jaded: you can't have your citrus and your symphony without your fair share of fake tits. So, the sentiment is not satirical like The Decemberists' "Los Angeles, I'm Yours." Admiral Radley just takes the good with the bad, Facts of Life style, and loves it all equally.

  1. I know I write on this thing and all, but I freaking love this song. I hadn't heard it until now - and it totally takes me back to buying those first few Grandaddy albums.

    Nice scoop Guymon.
