The Radio Cure | Volume 1.1

The Romany Rye

Our new feature, The Radio Cure, provides you a smattering of great tracks to cure you of the radio blues.

The Romany Rye – I Hate Myself (For Loving You) [download] The Romany Rye toured last summer with Delta Spirit and Dawes (if that’s any indication of this band’s cool factor) and is almost ready to release LP 2. But, we’ll have to wait until summer to get our hands on the album. Until then, we have the first sneak peek, “I Hate Myself (For Loving You). PS – It’s not a Joan Jett cover.

Sonny and the Sunsets – I Wanna Do It! [download]
We’ve given Sonny and the Sunsets a lotta love ’round these parts. Exhibit A: Jam of the Day #1. Exhibit B: Jam of the Day #2. Now, we’re psyched for the release of the appropriately-titled sophomore album, Hit After Hit, out April 12th on Fat Possum. Check out the first single, “I Wanna Do It!”

The Wilderness of Manitoba – Orono Park
Toronto’s The Wilderness of Manitoba is set for the U.S. release of its LP, When You Left The Fire, on May 10th. The beautiful, harmony-drenched song, “Orono Park,” premiered last week.

Ocean Carolina – Night and Day
Not too long ago, Ocean Carolina’s “Blue” was our pick for Jam of the Day. Michael Simone’s new band makes perfect alt-country tunes, and this one is no exception.

The Booze – Down On Your Luck
Atlanta boys, The Booze, play R&B through their unique rock ‘n’ roll filter.  Their new single, “Down On Your Luck” makes misfortune alley sound like the place to be.

Birds of Avalon – Shadowy End
“Shadowy End” will pull a Donny and Marie on your ass. Yup, it’s a little bit country. And a little bit rock ‘n’ roll. If you can excuse our blatant use of a lame pop culture cliché, we will go on to say that if you’re a fan of Megafaun and Futurebirds, you’ll like this band.

Sleepy Rebels – You Can Make the Sunrise
This New York-based trio makes power pop perfect for the upcoming spring months. The new album, Yellow Tree, comes out this May.

Wye Oak – Civilian
This duo from Baltimore will release their third album, Civilian, on March 8th. The title track builds into a frenzy that will make you wanna mess up your room and call it a day.

Hunx & His Punx – To Young to be in Love
Hunx & His Punx might be the first ever “girl group” fronted by a male. The band has created a unique new sound they refer to as “Young Oldies,” a mixture of ’50s teenage rock ‘n’ roll, ’60s girl groups, bubblegum pop.

The Last Royals – Nothing Compares 2 U
This Brooklyn duo accomplish the near impossible by giving us a fresh cover of Prince’s immortal, “Nothing Compares 2 U.”
