The self-titled debut LP of Santa Barbara, California quintet Gardens & Villa was released in July (Secretly Canadian), and the record has been steadily growing on us all summer. The record's first single is "Black Hills," a grooving jam that evokes memories of some of Britt Daniel and Spoon's earlier work, fused with a branch of expertly paced, synthed out rhythms. The spacey whine of Chris Lynch's vocals are a sublime compliment to the patterned base layer planted by the rest of the band.
Good news! Gardens & Villa will play a show (sponsored by Do314.com and The Loud Label) this Friday at The Gramophone in Saint Louis. And it's FREE if you RSVP ahead of time here.
