Contest | Win Tickets to Lucinda Williams at The Pageant

Lucinda Williams, one of our favorite singer-songwriters, is back at The Pageant on Wednesday, October 12th, touring behind her latest album, Blessed, which the New York Times calls "...one of her best." One of the great things about seeing Williams at The Pageant is that she always seems extra stoked for the occasion -- many times has she remarked that the venue on Delmar is one of her favorites to play.

We're extra stoked to be giving away a pair of tickets to two lucky winners to the show!

To enter, please let us know your favorite Lucinda Williams song, and write a sentence or two on why you chose that song. You can post this in one of two ways:

1. Leave it as a comment on this post.

2. Leave it as a comment on our Facebook page.

The contest will run through October 9th (11 PM central), and we'll pick two winners (subjectively based on song descriptions) and announce them on Facebook and Twitter on October 10th. Good luck!

  4. "Out of Touch" captures the estrangement all of us feel, some of us daily, from each other as we go about our day. The melody evokes the tragedy of our fractured existence without being maudlin.

  5. Favorite song: Lake Charles (I think...)

Why?: Though she is an incredible songwriter through and through, the whole record (Car Wheels) and this song in particular has such a strong sense of place/rootedness and really evokes the places she's singing about. I grew to love it even more driving through Louisiana to move my younger brother into college.

  6. "Concrete and Barbed Wire"

Because this conservative good girl loves a story from the other side of the tracks.

It reminds me of the sweet longing you feel for someone you love but can't see often.

  8. Joy. Love the passion, the emotion, the hot guitar. And when our kids were born, we even modified the lyrics, from "joy" to "toy"...worked for us :)

  9. "Metal Firecracker"

    All I ask
    Don't tell anybody the secrets
    Don't tell anybody the secrets
    I told you

I realized any problems my ex and I had were worth solving, that nobody else was worth my secrets. He's the one, and now we're married with kids.

  10. "Awakening" from the new album, *Blessed*. It's Kate Chopin's Edna Pontellier (from the novella *The Awakening*) meets 2011, emboldened, with will and desire and choice.

  13. I can't make the concert, but I've been Blessed. I'd give the tickets to the two people in St. Louis who haven't been acquainted with Lucinda's art. I seriously doubt that they are Bob Dylan and Neil Young.

  14. My favorite song..Coppenhagen. I love this song because I think of my mom who passed away last year. And the lyrics always brings me to tears "..and i'm 57 but i could be 7 years old cause i will never be able to comprehend the expansiveness of what i just learned."

  18. #7 on the Car Wheels CD is my favorite but I LOVE all of them. Who hasn't been involved with someone they couldn't have? "It's over...I know it but I can't let go". My other favorite phrase from another song is "june bug vs hurricane"....speaks to me.

  19. "Born To Be Loved" has to be my favorite because, aren't we all? The song makes me think of all of the children that aren't and inspires me to do something about it.

its songs like these. that make me So SAD. but I love them anyway and will listen 2, 3 times in a row. and cry.

  22. "Passionate Kisses" Very, very hard to pick a favorite Lucinda song so I thought I'd pick one that perhaps is less expected. All her themes are here--all her angst, all her love, all her loss. Is the song a little more positive than other songs? That's a question for each listener ...

  29. Pineola really paints a picture for me. She has such a way with creating so much imagery and emotion with her songs. Whenever I listen to this song I'm reminded of a much loved friend who passed in much the same way. How about Seeing Black, I Don’t Know How You’re Living, or Soldier’s Song from her Blessed album? – lots of emotion and imagery. Just close your eyes and listen to her lyrics…. amazing what she can create!
