Concert Photos | Grace Potter & The Nocturnals at The Pageant in Saint Louis

All photos by Nate Burrell

Racing out of the gate with “Paris (Ooh La La)” and “Turntable,” Vermont’s Grace Potter & The Nocturnals dialed it up for a sold-out crowd at The Pageant on Thursday. Before “2:22,” a psychedelic, bluesy stampede if I ever saw one, Potter crawled on The Pageant’s floor like a hungry and possessed lion, joining the Nocturnals’ guitarists, Scott Tournet and Benny Yurco, on the ground for a few minutes to soak up the noise.

My favorite moment was near the end of “The Divide,” when Potter and Yurco slammed their instruments and hair in the air, creating the first “Holy Shit” moment at The Pageant in 2013.

The encore was focused and just about perfect, beginning with an extended acoustic guitar solo by Yurco, who was celebrating his birthday. He veered into Led Zeppelin’s “Over the Hills and Far Away” before leading into Heart’s “Crazy On You,” which Potter killed with ease. From there, Potter sat at the piano for “Apologies,” which was the calm before the final hail storm: “The Lion The Beast The Beat.
