Remove the synths. Slow that bass line down. Distill this song down to its essence, and what you’re left with is the hook of the best damn “beach music” song never written. And while you may not be familiar with Chairmen of the Board, The Platters or even The Coasters, the music of that sub-genre of a sub-genre bubbles up some serious nostalgia for any of us forced into long car rides with the ‘rents to Myrtle Beach for a week of fun in the sun.
As is — Seasons (Waiting On You) is a fine step forward for a band we’ve been following for years now. And if their performance at the Hopscotch Music Festival last year was any indication, their upcoming album Singles will find them stretching even further from their familiar 2 am freak-out-on-stage sound we’ve become accustomed to.
