You got no fear of the underdog
That’s why you will not survive
Perhaps you still don’t bet on Spoon.
And maybe the odds have been stacked against the band from Austin. Before the second encore of the evening, guitarist/keyboardist Eric Harvey noted that the first time he visited The Pageant, he was contained in the “Under-18” section of the venue.
“And now I’m rocking you all from up here,” Harvey said.
They closed their 90-minute set with “The Underdog” last night at The Pageant, but here’s the thing: we’re clearly dealing with present-day favorites here. They haven’t just survived — they have a wonderful new album called They Want My Soul, and they confidently showed off songs like “Rent I Pay” and “Do You.” There’s a line in the latter — “Do you run when it’s just getting good?” Always a good question to ask.
And Spoon is always a solid bet for a good time.
