St. Louis’ The Bottle Rockets are back with South Broadway Athletic Club, and not a whole lot has changed — just have a look at the song titles: “Big Lotsa Love,” “Big Fat Nuthin,” “Dog.” I bring this up not as a piece of criticism — the down-to-earth formula works for a reason — take “Dog,” for example: it clocks under two-and-half minutes, and lead singer Brian Henneman manages to take something that should have been left on the cutting room floor and craft it into a fun, memorable song. And that’s what The Bottle Rockets do: they find a home for the lost dogs. Long may they run.
