Jam of the Day | The Black Keys – Everlasting Light

The Black Keys’ sixth LP, Brothers, comes out today on Nonesuch Records. The blues-rock duo of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney released the Danger Mouse-produced, “Tighten Up,” as its first single back in March. And while that is a damn fine introduction to what Brothers is all about, an R&B-packed punch full of crazy catchy hooks, it’s the lead track off the album that is really blowing my mind. It’s gonna be a single, mommy, I just know it.

“Everlasting Light” dips, drives, and plunges, a series of pelvic thrusts under a fuzzy falsetto. It doesn’t speed up, it doesn’t slow down; it’s confident (charmingly cocky?) enough to persist at a medium pace, well aware that forcing it never does the job.

Brothers is available now. You can still stream it (for today only) over at NPR.
