All Night, the debut record from Houses, has been out for over a year (Lefse Records), but it took an exceptional turn in support of Youth Lagoon last week to make this blogger stand up and notice the indubitable talent of this Chicago duo. Houses (AKA Dexter Tortoriello & Megan Messina) churn out chilled-out, ambient electro-pop, and “Soak it Up” is a perfect exemplar of the sonic milieu in which they thrive. The track utilizes layered beats and loops to build a deeply hypnotic composition that elevates Tortoriello’s soothing, echoed vocals.
New music from Houses is on the way in 2012. Until then, revel in the entrancing allure that is “Soak it Up” and All Night.
