Welsh singer-songwriter Cate Le Bon has just a devastating voice; it’s part smoke and part rasp and part sweetness at the back of your mouth, and this duet with Perfume Genius is stunning. It’s halfway between a love song and a song of desolation and desperation, and it rings out with synthesizers and their blended but not quite matched voices; Le Bon’s vocals have a sharp edge to them, while Perfume Genius warms the track with his softer pleas.
“I Think I Knew” is from 2013’s Mug Museum, a versatile and intimate album that Le Bon is still touring behind. She plays the new Back Room at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro on Sunday, 1/12, in support of the record.
