The 2014 Adult Swim Singles program is the latest in a long line of fantastic Adult Swim curated compilations that stretch all the way back to 2006. The network has consistently demonstrated support for interesting outsider/independent music, and this year’s compilation is not only better than ever, it’s also free to download.
Tim Hecker’s “Amps, Drugs, Mellotron” is the fifth single released so far and easily the most avant-garde of the series. A remix of the washy soundscape “Amps, Drugs, Harmonium” from Hecker’s Virgins, this track substitutes Mellotron for the titular harmonium with extremely soothing results. It’d be the perfect song for hot air ballooning over Niagra Falls at dawn, or releasing a flock of doves in Times Square.
