Jam of the Day | Neon Indian – Polish Girl

Raise your hand if you have an affinity for old-school Nintendo. More than likely that took care of the the dudes in the crowd. Now – raise your hand if you like music that makes you want to shake your ass. That’s exactly what I thought. You ladies are are so predictable. Now you may be asking yourself what 8-bit gaming and throwing down on the dancefloor have in common. The answer is Neon Indian!

The brainchild of leader Alan Palomo, Neon Indian’s 2009 debut record, Psychic Chasms, not only earned the 20 year-old a spot on numerous year-end lists, but assisted the forming of a genre that, though known by a few names now, like hypnagogic pop and glo-fi, summoned a very unique and specific electro-mangled sound. Achieved by experimenting with groundbreaking effects, and adding recognizable sound effects from our collective geeky past, Neon Indian has concocted a sound that has a little something for everyone.

Our Jam of the Day, “Polish Girl,” is a shining example of the sentiments above. Its infectious beat makes even the most inactive booty move, while sounds that hearken everything from a smooshed koopa shell to the glorious ding of a smashed coin block pop in and out.

Check it out below – and pick up what is sure to be one of the year’s top albums right here. And enjoy it! It’s pretty damn hard not to.
