Singer-songwriter Mary Gauthier isn't afraid to write about any subject, even when it means writing bout her adopted and wandering past. Her new album, The Foundling, was released on May 18th, and it's an autobiographical journey that talks about Gauthier's search for her birth mother.
Gauthier explains that "when I was 45 years old, I searched for, found and was denied a meeting with my birth mother. She couldn’t afford to re-open the wound she’d carried her whole life, the wound of surrendering a baby. The Foundling is my story.”
The Foundling was produced in Toronto by Michael Timmins of Cowboy Junkies, who, as Gauthier puts it, "understood my story and was able to create a musical landscape that captures the nuances of the narrative.”
