Jam of the Day | Fergus & Geronimo – Powerful Lovin’

Fergus & Geronimo is Denton, Texas’s Jason Kelly and Andrew Savage. These are two talented guys that bonded over a mutual love of music, which ultimately led to the creation of their band, awesomely named after rival child gang leaders from the 1994 film, War of the Buttons. The band’s debut LP, Unlearn, is an eleven-track history lesson on the world of popular music, with lush R&B harmonies, authentic rock ‘n’ roll energy, and electronic experimentation.

The first single for Unlearn, and our Jam of the Day, “Powerful Lovin’,” almost has a Motown feel to it, as it trucks along on a smooth guitar riff and rhythmic bassline. And while it may pay obvious homage to bands of the past, its sound is also forward looking – fresh without trying too hard.

Do yourself a favor and check it out below. If you like, pick up the LP in its entirety here.
