Jam of the Day | Aphex Twin – minipops 67 [120.2][source field mix]

“This is the first Aphex Twin dong fore 13 years between the publication of the first a formal music.”

Is this the greatest Youtube description of all time? Probably not. But it is one of the most exciting pieces of language (English, I think..?) that I’ve read in a long, long time. It confirms that Richard D. James’ seminal electronic project Aphex Twin is for sure releasing a new album called, Syro, which has been cryptically announced over the past few weeks.

If the Youtube description wasn’t clear enough: “minipops 67 [120.2][source field mix]” is the first new Aphex Twin song to be officially released in 13 years, and it is %150 better than you’re expecting. Replete with liquid-y synth tones,  mangled vocals, and a squelching bass line, it’s what you’ve always loved about Aphex Twin, but seasoned with age. If this a good indicator of things to come, then we have a formidable album of the year contender in our midst.
