Jam of the Day | First Aid Kit – My Silver Lining

What is it that makes First Aid Kit so able to make such gorgeous Laurel Canyon flavored folk rock? Is it being from Sweden? I will be from Sweden, then, because “My Silver Lining”, the first single from upcoming second LP Stay Gold, is thoroughly, lushly beautiful. The harmonies that make the songs on The Lion’s Roar so beautiful, paired with thick strings and a far less stripped down sound than that album.

It is also my favorite kind of song: the kind of song that’s about being fucked up and having no idea what you’re doing and just wanting something, anything, to change:

I’ve woken up in a hotel room, my worries as big as the moon

Having no idea who or what or where I am

Something good comes with the bad

A song’s never just sad

There’s hope, there’s a silver lining

Show me my silver lining

Show me my silver lining

It doesn’t get more hopeless and hopeful at the the same time than that. This song. It breaks my heart and makes me fall in love all at once.

First Aid Kit are touring the States in support of Stay Gold in June, with a stop at the Cradle in Carrboro on 6/13. If it’s not sold out, it’s nearly, so get yourself a ticket ASAP.
