Jam of the Day | Grouplove – Colours

L.A. quintet Grouplove has been creating a buzz fueled by their rollicking live shows while opening for Florence and The Machine, Cold War Kids, and most recently SIC favorite, Foster The People. The group met somewhat coincidentally in Greece, then reunited in California to record the raucous tunes that would become their 2011 eponymous EP. “Colours” is the lead track of the EP, and it serves to introduce listeners to Grouplove’s brand of towering compositions and layered, harmonizing vocals. Grouplove’s refreshingly unbaked energy and passionate, ardent disposition are apparent as soon as the chorus hits. It is more than easy to imagine Grouplove’s performance of “Colours” slaying audiences live (and this SIC writer was indeed slayed by the Grouplove show this past Saturday @ Schubas in Chicago).

Comparisons to Modest Mouse (and even Port O’Brien) are inevitable, and that is not a bad thing at all for a band just starting out with so much promise. A full length record is coming this summer. We’ll be watching this rocking crew in 2011, to be sure.
